UNITED
METHODIST WOMEN'S CIRCLES
The Deborah Circle is composed of women striving to grow in our
love and knowledge of God and faith. Our time together is spent in
prayer, devotion, and concern and support for each other and others
outside of the circle. Hearts and Hands, our primary mission, is led
by Joy Saville. Many hours are spent by Joy and other circle
members, donating clothing and necessities for children and families
and spending time putting together baskets for these families.
Church members also make many generous contributions for this
mission. Mary
Ellen Wharton leads us as we meet in
members' homes at 9:30 a.m. the second Wednesday of each month.
The Ruth Circle
is a women's group under United Methodist Women. We meet on the
second Sunday of the month at 1:00 p.m. One of our members serves
as hostess and provides delicious dessert. Another member presents
our program. The programs are always uplifting, creative,
informative and sometimes just plain fun. Our mission project is "StreetTeens",
which is a shelter that helps homeless youth by providing a place to
come and get food, get off the street for a few hours, take a
shower, do laundry. They also provide counseling, tutoring, some
medical assistance. RUTH CIRCLE takes an offering each month to buy
such things as non-perishable food, water, new underwear and socks,
bus tokens, warm caps and gloves, back backs. For the past two
winters circle members have made warm fleece blankets with
water-proof bags to carry them in. Ruth Circle also collects small
toiletries and hygiene items, clothing appropriate for teens, back
packs and sleeping bags. Ruth Circle is a group of warm, caring
women who truly try to do the Lord's work.
Desert Star - We are
the Young and the Young at Heart group and we call ourselves “Desert
Stars.”
Founded in 2003, Desert Star numbered 13 at its first meeting, but
has since grown to 27. We don’t call ourselves average or typical.
The Desert Stars are ACTIVE and ENERGETIC and we love planning for
the many FUNdraising events we organize. The Desert Stars organize
a quarterly “Ladies Night Out” for our ladies and any local
restaurant may just find us at their door on that night ready to
have a great time. We have been known to order every dessert on the
menu. Desert Star United Methodist Women has selected the Las
Vegas City Mission as our focus for 2006. If you are looking
for something new and different in your life; if you are looking for
a Sisterhood that is like no other, then please come and join in the
fun with the Desert Stars. We meet the 1st Monday of
each month at
7pm in Room 3 at the church. We hope to see you there.
